Statement from Mike Daulton, Executive Director of Bat Conservation International:
“We are deeply disappointed that the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners approved the reckless development of the Miami Wilds water park on environmentally sensitive lands. This bat-killing project will risk permanent extinction of the highly endangered Florida bonneted bat. The science is clear: Miami Wilds water park would destroy open space that is heavily used by the rarest bat in the United States.
Not only is this decision against the will of the Miami-Dade voters, but it also is illegal per the Endangered Species Act. We will not stand by and watch this rare species be plunged into permanent extinction. We will continue to vigorously challenge this misguided project, and we will not back down.”
