The Congress Avenue Bridge in Austin, Texas, has become a world–
renowned attraction. Why? Because of the million plus Mexican free-tailed bats (Tadarida brasiliensis) that make their home under the bridge each spring into fall. The evening emergence flights attract large crowds. In August, when the young bats join their mothers in sinewy columns down Town Lake, the sight is nothing short of spectacular. This summer BCI is sponsoring an interpreter to speak to the crowd while they wait for the nightly event and to answer their questions.
