Your help with any of the following special needs would greatly increase our effectiveness. To make a donation, or for more information, please contact Bob Benson ( at (512) 327-9721, ext. 27.

Field Equipment Luggage
BCI’s busy summer-fall field season is proving particularly challenging this year with increased activities and limited luggage for transporting gear. Outdoor Products offers a wheeled nylon duffle ideal for heavy equipment. Two of these sturdy and spacious bags would make a big difference ($180 for two). We also have an immediate need for four durable tote bags to carry mist-net poles. These custom cases are handmade by a colleague and are kept in continual use year-round at workshops and ecotours ($288 for four). ($468 total.)

Thermometer & Temperature Data Loggers
Because temperature changes have been linked to bat population declines, accurate temperature readings are a top priority for BCI biologists during cave, mine, and bridge surveys. An IMC Instruments model 2300 Portable Digital Thermometer ($385) and 15 HOBO temperature and humidity data loggers ($100 each) would allow staff to gather precise data from deep crevices and cave walls and ceilings, providing crucial information for conservation planning. ($1,885 total.)

Laptop Computer System
BCI’s biologists are still hoping to raise the funds for a portable computer to record data while afield. The Dell Inspiron 7000 is a multimedia system that will assist them in everything from downloading temperature data in caves to presenting educational programs in classrooms. Donations to offset the cost of this system or a similar model would be much appreciated ($3,399).

BCI thanks Adobe Systems, Inc., of San Jose, CA; Kim Corfman of New York, NY; and Joyce Johnston of Milwaukee, WI, for fulfilling our request for graphic design software. We also thank Rowena Donaldson of Byron, CA, and Elaine Hopkins of Cleveland, OH, for their gracious contributions toward the purchase of a color printer and the 1999 Corporate Directory.
