Halloween is a time for scary costumes and delicious foods, but did you know that bats are involved in both sides of the celebrations?

Discover the connections between bats and many of our delicious foods at the Night of Nocturnal Treats event in San Antonio.

  • Hosted by: Freetail Brewing Company and Bat Conservation International
  • Location: Freetail Brewing Company Tasting Room in San Antonio
  • When: Wednesday October 28 from 6 – 9pm
  • Tickets: Tickets include a 22 oz bomber of beer and the tasty food!
  • Buy: $27.37 ($25 goes directly to bat conservation)

The event will include bat presentations from BCI bat experts, sweet and savory treats from local restaurants using ingredients that benefit from bat ecology and tasty beers including the new Nocturnal Nectar beer, which is made from several bat-associated ingredients. The bat treats are being supplied by local restaurants including Rio Rio Cantina, The Granary, Blue Star Brewing and the Freetail Brewing Company Brewpub. All proceeds will raise money for bat conservation.

Bats have some surprising benefits that you may not have heard of. Bats help bring many of our everyday foods to the table including rice, coffee, corn, numerous fruits and nuts, not to mention some of the most important of our Halloween treats: chocolate and tequila. Bats are our unseen gardeners, with many different foods around the world relying on these nocturnal creatures for pollination, seed dispersal and pest control.

Freetail Brewing Company and BCI have teamed up to make a Halloween beer that celebrates the connections between bats and food. This Belgian Blonde includes agave, flaked maize and papaya, all ingredients that benefit from bat ecology!
