The marketing and communication intern will work on a wide variety of projects across a number of departments at Bat Conservation International to help advance and manage the organization’s messaging and public identity.

BCI staff strive to make internship experiences valuable and meaningful for both the student and the organization. Our goal is to provide students the experience and knowledge to advance both their academic and professional careers.

Tasks Interns May Be Asked to Complete Include:

•   Write and edit copy for web articles, newsletters, print publications, e-blasts and social media.

•   Process images from BCI’s photo & video archive for publication and web use.

•   Assist with media relations including research and dissemination of press releases and image requests.

•   Assist with social media expansion including social media monitoring and development of social media campaigns.

•   Provide graphic support for the development of informational material.

•   Support outreach efforts through local events and online initiatives.

•   Gather and analyze data on the performance of BCI's marketing and communications efforts.

•   Other duties as required.

Strong writing/editing and graphic design skills are highly welcomed. Previous experience with Adobe Creative Suite is desirable.

 

Ideal Candidates for this Program Will:

•   Have recently completed, or enrolled in an accredited graduate/undergraduate program in communications, journalism, public relations or science communication.

•   Have an interest in topics related to bats, environmental conservation, community engagement and environmental marketing.

•   Have excellent writing and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with a high level of attention to detail;

•   Enjoy meeting and talking with members of the public/colleagues and responding to inquiries in a positive manner through email correspondence and phone calls;

•   Be able to work independently and as a part of a team, including with other team members who work remotely; 

•   Have proficiency with email programs such as Outlook, and office management software such as Windows Office including Word, Excel, and Powerpoint;

•   Have graphics design skills with proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign: and

•   Be located in the Washington DC area.

 

Hours and Schedule

Internships with the communications department vary depending on scheduling and scope of involvement. Full time internships, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday are encouraged, but flexibility is available for exact times of day, and amount of hours per week. A minimum of 10 hours per week for three months is required. Summer internships are available. 

Location and Compensation

The position in located in our Ballston office. The position is paid on a per hour basis.
