Batty Balls


Batty balls
A great treat for kids and adults alike. No baking or heating involved!

You’ll Need:

  • Squeezeit Mold painter
  • Disposable pastry bag or zip top bag
  • Pecil and paper over a baking sheet

 

Ingredients:

Bat bodies

  • 2 ½ cups of crushed vanilla wafers (about 75 wafers) 
  • 1 cup of ground pecans (bat connection!)
  • 1 cup of confectioners’ sugar  (bat connection!)
  • 2 tablespoons and 2 teaspoons of baking cocoa  (bat connection!)
  • ¼ cup of rum*
  • 3 tablespoons of honey
  • 2 tablespoons of water
  • Decorating cooking icing – white
  • Chocolate flavored sprinkles  (bat connection!)

**For a kid friendly version use 1/3 cup of condensed milk instead of rum and honey.

Instructions

Bat Wings

  1. Melt and temper the chocolate
  2. Chop the chocolate into really fine pieces
    • Heat 3/4 of the chopped chocolate in the microwave on 50% power in 15 second increments, stirring after each, and allowing the chocolate to rest for a minute, then stirring again. Continue until almost all the chocolate is melted
    • Add the remaining 1/4 of the finely chopped chocolate and stir until melted If needed you can return the chocolate to the microwave and heat at 50% power for 5 seconds
  3. Draw some bat wings on a piece of baking paper.
  4. Pipe the melted chocolate over the drawing creating your wings. Refrigerate until the wings are set, about 3-5 minutes. 

 

Bat Bodies and eyes

  1. In a large bowl, combine the wafer crumbs, pecans, confectioners’ sugar and cocoa. Combine the rum, honey and water; stir into crumb mixture.
  2. Shape into 1-inch balls
  3. Pipe the white icing mixture onto the chocolate balls to make the eyes. Place the chocolate sprinkles on the icing for the pupils.
  4. Place the balls in the refrigerator for one hour.
  5. Remove from the refrigerator. Insert the set chocolate bat wings into the balls and serve.
