Wish List

Your help with any of the following special needs would greatly increase our effectiveness. To make a donation, or for more information, please call Bob Benson at BCI (512) 327-9721, ext. 27.

Bat Detector
A new Anabat II Bat Detector, its Delay Switch, Interface Module, and carrying case is needed to help identify bat species in remote mine surveys. This detector will also be an important addition to our workshops and ecotours. Donations to offset the Anabat system ($2,800) will be much appreciated!

Multi-Purpose Sawtable
Mark Kiser, BCI’s Bat House Research Project coordinator, is currently testing new bat house designs at organic farms and ranches and needs a portable sawtable to build or alter houses on site. A model 400 TrimTramp Sawtable ($475) would make all the difference in Mark’s work.

Computer System
Over the past few years, our Publications team has brought all design work in-house to avoid the expensive charges of outside contractors. As these in-house projects become more demanding, we need more computer power (RAM, MHZ, etc.) to handle them. A new Power Macintosh clone will increase our speed exponentially and help us tackle our latest project--a 100-plus-page new educator resource book! We would be very grateful for donations to cover the cost ($1,985).

BCI’s Bats and Mines Project Director sends an enthusiastic thank-you to the many people responsible for getting her equipped this spring: Craig Schroll and Firecon Corporation in East Earl, PA, and the CR Briggs Corporation of Trona, CA, for their role in securing a noxious-gas meter; and Bryan Knowles of Dallas, TX, and the Shomos Family Foundation from Mukwonago, WI, for assisting with the purchase of MSHA-approved headlamps.

The BCI Development team would like to thank Mrs. Georgia Hauser of Chicago Ridge, IL, for her donation to cover the cost of the 1997 Environmental Foundation Directory.
