BATFEST is coming to Austin, Texas, complete with food, music, arts and crafts – and 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats zipping out from under the Congress Avenue Bridge around sundown. The festivities will be September 3-4 (Saturday and Sunday) at the bridge in downtown Austin.
Roadstar Productions, which is producing this celebration of the famous bridge bat colony, will donate a portion of the proceeds to Bat Conservation International.
About 150 booths are expected at the outdoor site. They’ll include lots of activities and educational displays for children and families, as well as a variety of food and an array of products by professional artisans. The live music program will offer include for almost every taste.
Roadstar Productions and some of Austin’s finest chefs are teaming up for a Bat Breakfast on the Bridge from 8 to 10 a.m. Sunday (September 4) to welcome the bats back to the bridge after their night of feasting on all sorts of pesky insects.
Festival hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
