The great diversity of bats around the world is immediately evident when viewing the stamp collection of BCI member Thomas Lera (see article, facing page). Perhaps indicating a growing awareness of the importance of bats, dozens of countries have issued stamps celebrating bat species found within their borders. In total, more than 60 species and 12 of the 18 bat families of the world have been represented on postage stamps.
