Emergency Conservation Fund
BCI devotes much of its time to proactive conservation. Through education, we hope to prevent many situations from ever reaching crisis proportions. However, crisis situations do occur, such as protecting Old Millie Mine in Michigan this past year. BCI must be prepared to respond quickly. The costs and time involved in emergency conservation assistance include travel, telephone time, staff hours, and educational materials. Your help ensures designated funds when the need arises. Contributions from $1,000 and up are welcome. (Last year's Old Millie Mine project alone cost BCI several thousand dollars.)
Attendance at research conferences is vital for BCI staff to stay current and to network with others. Your help in enabling five program staff members to attend the 24th Annual North American Symposium on Bat Research in Mexico would be greatly appreciated ($1,200 each).
As BCI grows, so do the demands on our two office printers. An HP Laserjet 4 printer would enable us to support cost-saving desktop publishing efforts and additional staff ($2,100).
As a result of our continued growth, additional filing space is urgently needed. Four 36" or 48" lateral filing cabinets, 3- or 4-drawer, would be most appreciated ($400 each).
BCI's Xerox copy machine is old and now in need of constant repair. We are seeking a new Xerox 5028 copier. Replacing this equipment would greatly assist our efficiency ($5,000).
BCI thanks Debbie Palmer, San Jose, CA; Patrick Mckenna, Dallas, TX; Darlene Chirman, Davis, CA; Torey Gerwin, Woodland Hills, CA; Suzanne Meller, Berkeley, CA; Rosemary Holden, Ridgewood, NJ; Doris Applebaum, Oak Park, MI; and Roberta Amott, Roseburg, OR, for sponsoring foreign conservationists with memberships to BCI.
