THE SECRET WORLD OF BATS is a well written, highly informative introduction to British bats. It includes a general overview of the ecology and behavior of bats, with emphasis on the 15 species found in Britain. A chapter, "Working with bats," provides helpful information on rehabilitation and care of bats, and one on bat boxes includes detailed plans and suggestions for placement. Recent protective legislation is explained, while conservation needs are emphasized throughout.
