| Wetland Restoration & Creation Workshop |
| + more information |
Hosted by: Bat Conservation International, the Coconino National Forest, and the Arizona Game & Fish Department.
Workshop details: Small wetlands provide critical habitat to many species of amphibians, invertebrates, birds, and mammals, and essential drinking sites for bats. Unfortunately, a majority of these ecosystems have been lost to draining and filling throughout North America. These landscape modifications affect recovery efforts for endangered species, reduce water quality, increase flooding, and reduce ground water supplies. Fortunately, through techniques developed and tested by the Center for Wetlands and Stream Restoration, it’s now possible to restore and construct wetlands with desired hydro-periods, aquatic vegetation, and animal life. This hands-on workshop is designed for individuals interested in learning how to use practical, low cost techniques for building and restoring wetlands. You’ll see how wetland projects can be planned on public and private range and forestlands and even on school grounds to benefit plants, animals, and people. You’ll learn how to select the best locations for building wetlands, test soils, lay out proposed wetlands, choose construction techniques, work with heavy equipment operators, and establish native plants. We will complete a wetland restoration project and visit multiple wetland discussion sites during the Workshop.
Target audience: Biologists, range conservationists, hydrologists, foresters, and other relevant natural resource management staff.
