BCI Species Profiles

There are forty-seven kinds of bats living in the United States, representing four distinct groups, including the ghost-faced, leaf-nosed, vesper bat, and free-tailed families. Since common names can change between regions, scientists have given each bat a distinct two-part Latin name, designating the genus and species. Below, you can sort and show North American bats by State/Province or Family Group. The common names are also listed for your convenience.
