International Year of the Bat

At a meeting in Bristol, in the United Kingdom, in July 2000, the EuroBats delegation passed a resolution designating the year 2001 as the "International Year of the Bat." The new year marks the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Agreement on the Conservation of Bats in Europe, which has successfully promoted bat conservation. The resolution also encourages other states and countries to "initiate, continue and collaborate…in conservation and public awareness campaigns to help improve the conservation status of all bat species."
