Founder's Circle Members Join Film Crew in Costa Rica

Founder's Circle members Ann Stokes and John Mitchell recently joined Merlin Tuttle and Dieter Plage, a wildlife cinematographer for Survival Anglia, at the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve in Costa Rica during final filming for the CBS documentary (see story, page 3). Not only did they witness some of the more spectacular never-before-seen events that will appear in the film, they also personally met several of the "stars." When Ann was introduced to her first leaf-nosed fruit bat, she remarked that it looked like a "darling little flying rhinoceros."

Monteverde is a popular birding site, and Ann and John frequently spent their days looking for other animals that fly. But their enthusiasm for bats was hard to contain, and they frequently were overheard extolling the benefits of bats to other visitors at the reserve. To their surprise, several of their new acquaintances were also BCI members who were vacationing in Costa Rica.

Ann and John are Charter Members of the Founder's Circle, established just this year for donors who make an annual gift of $1,000 or more to BCI. Founder's Circle members receive special benefits and opportunities throughout the year.
